Schaeffler installs 938 photovoltaic modules on the factory premises in Herzogenaurach

The new plant produces around 341,000 kWh of electricity annually

Further photovoltaic systems on building surfaces on the factory premises are being planned

Schaeffler is installing a new photovoltaic system on the roof of the former Adidas headquarters on an area of 1,850 square meters. The automotive and industrial supplier took over the site in 2019. The renovated buildings on the so-called Campus West are now mainly used for central Schaeffler human resources functions and Corporate Real Estate Management. From mid-December, the company will be installing 938 photovoltaic modules, each with a peak power of 400 watts and a total output of 375 kilowatts. Projected over a year, around 341,000 kWh of electricity can be produced. For comparison: in a single-family home, the average consumption without hot water is around 3,000 kWh. With the new system, Schaeffler thus covers the power consumption of around 113 households and saves 143.2 tons of CO2. The investment volume is 500,000 euros. The electricity produced on the roofs is used for self-consumption at the Herzogenaurach site.

Sandra K?llner, Head of Real Estate Projects, New Work & Office Space Management at Schaeffler, explains: “The installation of the photovoltaic system and the associated investment represent a first small step towards increasing the security of supply in the plant. Together with our colleagues from maintenance and plant management, we will gradually provide further building areas on the plant premises in Herzogenaurach with photovoltaic modules in the coming weeks and months. In doing so, we are also supporting the Schaeffler Group's long-term goals of achieving energy efficiency gains of 100 gigawatt hours by 2024 and working climate-neutrally in our own production by 2030."
