Three Schaeffler plants in Homburg are celebrating anniversaries – 70, 50 and 30 years

On Sunday, July 24, 2022, Schaeffler in Homburg an der Saar celebrated three anniversaries that are significant for both the company and the city: In 1951, the brothers Georg and Wilhelm founded Schaeffler on the site of the former H?fer -Barracks the first of the three Schaeffler plants in Homburg. Schaeffler W?lzlager oHG followed 50 years ago and INA Lineartechnik was born 30 years ago.

To mark the anniversaries, the company organized a family day for the employees of the three plants. Guests of honor at the subsequent celebration included Anke Rehlinger, Prime Minister of Saarland, and Michael Forster, Mayor of Homburg. Corinna Schittenhelm, Member of the Board of Management for Human Resources and Labor Director at Schaeffler, and Matthias Zink, Member of the Board of Management for Automotive Technologies at Schaeffler, also attended the event. In his speech, the long-time plant manager Fritz Borntr?ger emphasized how far the range of products and technologies in Homburg has developed over the decades: "From needle bearings and elements for combustion engines to linear technology - in Homburg an der Saar a significant part of the Schaeffler Written industrial history.”

Strong innovative power of the Homburg location

One example of the innovative strength of the Homburg site is medical technology: the so-called traversing system for computer tomographs is produced there as a complete system. This system enables, for example, the alternating use of the heavy equipment in two treatment rooms. In addition, the factory campus stands for the highly efficient production of components and engine elements in the billions. The basis for this is the company's excellence in numerous manufacturing processes. “Schaeffler has the innovative strength, the development know-how and the manufacturing excellence to shape the mobility of the future. We have to consistently apply these virtues in Homburg and at all of our locations in order to continue to be a preferred partner for our customers in the future,” said Matthias Zink, Member of the Executive Board Automotive Technologies at Schaeffler AG. Corinna Schittenhelm, Member of the Board of Management responsible for Human Resources and Labor Director, added: “The company owes this success and the impressive innovative strength above all to the skills and commitment of its employees – here in Homburg and at all Schaeffler Group locations.”

From the typewriter to the PC

The Schaeffler works in Homburg can look back on an eventful past full of change and upheaval. From pneumatic tube to e-mail, from the typewriter to the PC, from punch cards to NC programs, from manual activities to modern and digital automation technology - all changes have been successfully mastered. At the end of the event, Plant Manager Fritz Borntr?ger thanked the Schaeffler family in particular for their extraordinary entrepreneurial flair for decades in an increasingly complex world.
